  • Aini Z.A.K. visited the Department of Manufacturing Process, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) on 9th June 2011 and the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) on 10th June 2011. She gave the presentation of “High-fidelity machining simulation – a stepping stone for smart machining environment” while she visited UTeM. June 2011
  • The new book titled "Information Modeling for Interoperable Dimensional Metrology" authored by Fiona Zhao, Robert Brown, Thomas Kramer and Xun Xu was published in September 2011, ISBN 978-1-4471-2166-4.
  • Welcome to Mr. Zhiqian Jake Sang who joined the group in November last year. Jake will be working on EtherMAC CNC based on STEP-NC.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Firman Ridwan who successfully defended his thesis and subsequently gained him a PhD degree just before Christmas. Firman worked a STEP-NC enabled machine condition monitoring project. Firman is now back at Andalas University in Indonesian as an academic.
  • Victor has a baby boy added to the family. The baby was born on the 30th October 2011. The group sends the best wishes to Victor and the family.
  • Prof. Huiqin Gao from Hebei University of Science and Technology, who joined the group as a visiting scholar in Oct. 2010, has now completed her work and returned to her university. 19 October 2011
  • Dr. Fiona Zhao, currently working at NIST, US, is on the move to Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France to work as a post-doc fellow. October 2011

  • A/Prof. Xu has been elected as a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), becoming one of the only two New Zealanders who are Fellows ASME.
  • Wang Ke (visiting research assistant) has finished his project titled “Ethernet Based CNC”.
  • Mohamed Minhat and Fiona Zhoa have obtained their PhD’s from the University of Auckland in March 2010
  • Johannes has finished the internship project titled ‘Remote Monitoring of Machine Tools via MTConnect’. He has done a good job in configuring the MTConnect system. At the moment Johannes has gone back to RWTH Aachen University.
  • Jay has finished the internship project titled ‘Universal Manufacturing Platform via Java’. He presented in a different session on his preliminary knowledge regarding UMP using Java. Right now he is back to France working on the final step for his degree. May all the best to him.
  • Mr. Tao Victor Peng joined the group, working on his PhD research titled “Development of an Energy-informed Machining System”. August, 2010
  • Aini’s  paper ‘Smart machining simulation based on high-level data’ has been accepted by the 2010 ASME International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC2010), Pennsylvania, USA.
